Welcome

Focus Libya aims to assemble and curate pedagogical resources on the culture(s) and politics of contemporary Libya, in order to aid researchers and ultimately facilitate increased scholarship on the country.

At its heart, the project maintains a simple goal: to draw upon the knowledge of those long active in researching Libya (academics, journalists, and others), and to use their recommendations to create a list of essential readings on the history, politics, and cultures of the country.

Acknowledgements

Libya is chronically under-researched. It is the near-universal recognition of this fact that led so many scholars to support the project and even to kindly offer up the fruits of their own labors.

I am particularly indebted to George Joffé, Lisa Anderson, Charles Tripp, Karima Laachir, Igor Cherstich, Wen-chin Ouyang, Charis Boutieri, Ariel Ahram, Jacob Mundy, Fadil Aliriza, Matteo Capasso, and others for their generous assistance. Without their help, bibliographies, and recommendations, this site simply would not have been possible.

Any mistakes or shortcomings on the site are mine alone.
